ABOUT

The “Women Working Project” is a community, media and arts project under the Just Sy Design brand. The project is dedicated to raising awareness on women’s issues in the workforce through community building and visual arts and media. It provides a way for women to connect and take action on issues within their communities, while sharing their stories. The end result of the project is to compile the experience into a documentary, releasing in 2017.

Just Sy Design is seeking two motivated women to join the Women Working Project team as Media and Community Organizing Interns. The ideal candidates will possess a strong interest in activism, community mobilization and knowledge of the digital landscape.

 


MEDIA & COMMUNITY ORGANIZER INTERN 

responsibilities include:

  • Build and maintain relationships with the online community using Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other media accounts

  • Participate in online outreach and campaign promotions

  • Develop content calendar on a weekly basis

  • Support in production needs on and off site - organizing schedules, interviews and contracts.

  • Support  as needed in the development and planning of events and meetings – agendas, logistics, registration, marketing.

  • Take detailed notes at meetings and produce clear final notes for dissemination with quick turn-around and provide general support as needed to partners and facilitators at meetings.

  • Lead street outreach and other community-based canvassing for special projects

  • Create leadership opportunities for members of the Harlem community to be involved in special projects that provide opportunities for responsibility, skills development, and collective ownership of the work

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Junior or Senior attending a 4-year college or university studying, visual arts, media and communications, or related field

  • 2+ years’ experience in social media/marketing

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • In-depth working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest and Google Drive and Apps

  • Basic graphic designing skills

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish preferred)

  • Strong commitment to activism and developing strategies for social change

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, OPPORTUNITIES & BENEFITS

  • Roles are based in New York City and are non paid.

  • Internship will run for four months (May 15th-End of August, dates are negotiable) four days a week, includes weekends

  • Candidates will receive Just Sy Design- "College Women Working Package", which includes 100 personal branded business cards and customized/editable resume and cover letter design to get a heads start in networking and job searching! I will also write a letter of recommendation upon the completion of the internship.

  • Have the opportunity to learn about video production, graphic designing and community organizing

  • Have the opportunity to participate and be featured in the Women Working Project documentary releasing in 2017
